Dizibilidades e visibilidades da colonização dirigida às margens da Transamazônica – Brasil, década de 1970

Abstract

This paper is part of a research that I called “Amazon Rainforest of the Dictatorship”. In this attempt, I defined the colonization policy (settlement of workers on the Transamazon Highway) as the synthesis policy of the dictatorship in the Amazon Rainforest. Next, I present part of the history of this colonization. For that, I divided the text below into two topics: displacement and assistance. Each topic deals with an action of the colonization policy. The Transamazon colonization scheme required to move workers to the new region, especially those from the Northeast. On the other hand, in order to install these workers, the government had to set up a welfare program in those locations. Here, I will highlight the assistance related to the formal education of the settlers, their children, people who arrived in the Amazon Rainforest between the developmental project of the military government in the 1970s.
