This essay is based on a series of interviews with individuals who participated in the Portuguese Colonial War and seeks to understand how the war experience contributes to the formation of individual and collective identity, as well as to their perception of otherness and the sedimentation of prejudices arising from the colonial ideal. Th ese testimonies were contextualized within the portuguese history, from the time in question until today.
