Zózimo Bulbul: the practice of Oral history at the Centenary of Abolition (1988) and the life story of a black artist (1937-1959)

The article analyzes the interview of Zózimo Bulbul given in the project "Reflections on the Centenary of Abolition", in the Oral History program of the Museum of Image and Sound in Rio de Janeiro (MIS-RJ). Th e project was led by the historian and activist Maria Beatriz Nascimento and was in dialogue with the proposal to build a black history in Brazil on the Centenary of Abolition. In the interview, Zózimo Bulbul builds a representation of himself and the history of Rio de Janeiro crossed by the discussion of racism in the urban space, and by the awareness of blackness in the city of Rio de Janeiro. The article analyzes the artist's biographical trajectory in childhood, adolescence and early adulthood.
